BIMBADGEN ESTATE BOTRYTIS SEMILLON WINS BEST STICKY!

2005 Decanter World Wine Awards, London – Best Dessert Wine

Australian producer, Bimbadgen Estate, won the International Trophy for best dessert wine (under £10 category) at the 2005 Decanter World Wine Awards in London last night. The international award follows the regional Australian trophy in the same category.

Taking out the trophy for the 2004 Botrytis Semillon, Bimbadgen also won a silver medal for the 2003 Bimbadgen Estate Signature Palmers Lane Shiraz and a bronze medal for the 2003 Bimbadgen Estate Shiraz.

The Decanter World Wine Awards celebrate the diversity of wine by focusing on regional styles and the influence of terroir. The wines are judged in two price bands – under £10 and over £10 – to provide practical recommendations to those who buy and enjoy wine. Some of the world´s most respected experts head up the regional panels to ensure that the wines are judged for their regional style rather than simply rewarding wines crafted specifically as ‘competition´ wines.

Speaking from London last night, Simon Thistlewood, Chief Winemaker for Bimbadgen Estate Wines, was elated with this achievement and “looks forward to returning to Australia to celebrate and share this award with the team at Bimbadgen.”

This latest accomplishment follows a very successful year for Bimbadgen on the Australian Wine Show circuit, with 27 medals awarded - including gold medals for the 1999 & 2002 Bimbadgen Signature Semillon, 2003 Bimbadgen Estate Merlot and the 2004 Bimbadgen Estate Botrytis Semillon.

“This international trophy, together with the great achievements from Australian wine shows, positions Bimbadgen as a strong New South Wales regional producer in both domestic and international markets and is testament to the dedication Bimbadgen places on regionality within its wine range. It is the culmination of eight years of hard work and we look forward to continued success in the future,” said Bimbadgen´s National Sales & Marketing Manager, Paul Stuart.
