The Cellar Door
Situated in a commanding position on a hilltop with magnificent views to the Brokenback and Barrington Ranges, the Bimbadgen Cellar Door allows visitors to overlook the vines that made the wine at your table, and visibly see the production tanks and crushing pits upon entry. To be completely engulfed in the entire process behind the finished product.
The Cellar Door is a large contemporary facility, with large glass sliding doors opening up to the outdoor amphitheatre, grape receival and crushing area and surrounding vines. The fit out features polished concrete floors, timber and stainless steel.
The tasting bar has a crisp white benchtop providing a perfect backdrop for first examining the colour of the wine – an integral part of the wine tasting process. A wide selection of merchandise and giftware is available for sale, including products and produce such as chilli oil, olives and preserved lemons under the Esca Bimbadgen label, allowing visitors to take the taste of Esca away with them.
The north end of the cellar door is home to the Club Bimbadgen private tasting room. With seating for up to 20 guests, the private tasting room again has expansive views across the valley, floor to ceiling glass sliding doors offer an intimate atmosphere for smaller groups, and home to selected aged Bimbadgen wines for future training, education and interest.
The external walls were mostly retained in original form, with only the back wall being replaced with the exposed steel frame and glass additions. The striking belltower, which features on the corporate logo and all bottle labels, had to be retained and is an icon of the building, however softened with the horizontal lines of the balcony and large sliding glass doors, allowing for interaction between the indoors and out.
A popular tourist attraction, and receiving the NSW Best Tourism Winery in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008 and again in 2009 (including a Hall of Fame induction), and picking up the Australian Tourism Winery award in 2002, 2006 and 2007, the Cellar Door attracts over 1500 visitors per month and stocks over 23 products in the Bimbadgen Range.
