Palmers Lane
Originally planted in 1968 at the end of a quiet dirt road still largely untouched, Palmers Lane is framed by century-old fig trees and offers breathtaking views of the Brokenback mountain range, making it one of the Hunter Valley’s best-kept secrets.
Spanning 15 hectares, the vineyard is planted predominantly north–south, with contour blocks that follow the natural curves of the land. Though less than two kilometres from the Bimbadgen winery, Palmers Lane typically ripens two weeks later than our McDonalds Road site, a fascinating difference that intrigues our viticultural team.
The vineyard’s soil profile is among Australia’s most distinctive. At the hilltop, rich red volcanic soils nurture Shiraz vines that produce wines known for their elegance, perfume, and charm. At the vineyard’s base, prized Semillon blocks grow in lean, sandy loam soils, consistently yielding exceptional fruit that forms the foundation of our Signature range, crafted only in the finest vintages.
McDonalds Road
In contrast to the elegance and delicacy of Palmers Lane, Bimbadgen’s McDonalds Road Vineyard is defined by power, depth, and structure.
Situated on a 12-hectare hillside overlooking neighbouring vineyards and the rolling fairways of a championship golf course, this site is renowned for producing brooding, concentrated wines with unmistakable presence.
The vineyard’s standout blocks are the dry-grown vines adjacent to the 7th green of The Vintage golf course. These low-yielding vines consistently deliver fruit of exceptional intensity and character, particularly Shiraz and other red varietals.
McDonalds Road typically ripens earlier than Palmers Lane, with its warmer, more exposed aspect contributing to richer, more muscular wines. While Palmers Lane offers perfume and finesse, McDonalds Road delivers bold structure and depth; two distinct expressions of the Hunter Valley, each with a unique voice.
