Bimbadgen Pre-Vintage Update: A Promising Season in the Hunter Valley
Across Bimbadgen’s two Hunter Valley vineyards, Palmers Lane and McDonalds Road, the season to date has been defined by a warm, relatively dry spring and early summer, allowing our vineyards to progress steadily and evenly. Growth has been consistent, with good vine and canopy balance evident across all sites, and we have been fortunate to avoid any damage from major storm events.
Recent rainfall has provided timely relief, refreshing soils and supporting continued vine function without disrupting momentum. Walking through the rows, the vines are heavy with developing clusters, leaves glistening in the sun, and the air carries the fresh, earthy scent of the vineyard soils. A perfect snapshot of the Hunter Valley in summer.
As we move through veraison (the process of grapes developing colour), the vines are transitioning smoothly into ripening. Fruit development remains on track, and vine health continues to be strong.
At this stage, the season is shaping favourably, though conditions remain conditional. If the current patterns persist, ripening is likely to occur slightly earlier than average, with harvest potentially commencing in the first few days of January, particularly for our Chardonnay. This early harvest is expected to produce crisp, vibrant wines that reflect the season’s warm, even growth.
Overall, the outlook is cautiously positive as we progress through veraison and into the critical final stages of the season. As always in the Hunter Valley, the defining influences are yet to come in the final weeks ahead, and we look forward to seeing how the grapes continue to develop before they are carefully harvested and transformed into Bimbadgen wines.
